Photo-27Jan2016.jpgHelen Hsu, MD, MS, recently joined EMMC Cancer Care as director of the Oncology Research Program. Dr. Hsu has over 20 years of experience as an executive in program leadership, clinical research development, medical affairs, monitoring, and quality management. She has successfully designed and carried through many national and global clinical trials in oncology and other therapeutic areas. She brings a wealth of knowledge and skills across the full spectrum of biomedical research from bench to bedside, and ultimately from bedside to community.

“Having been in research for years, I strongly believe in providing the most leading edge clinical trials for patients, expanding treatment options, and ensuring quality care for patents in general, and especially for cancer patients,” she says. “Moving forward, my vision is to advance early detection for cancers and eventually shift focus to cancer prevention and evidence-based disease prevention.”

As a physician from China with great passion in biomedical research, Dr. Hsu pursued her graduate training in molecular biology and clinical laboratory science at Michigan State University. She continued her career journey in basic research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in translational research at NYU North Shore University Hospital, and in clinical research at GSK, Novartis, and BI. More recently as a medical strategy advisor, she provided consultancy services to biotech and pharma companies in the US and the EU as well as to healthcare organizations in Asia.

Dr. Hsu joins a growing cancer research team that partners with organizations in Maine and beyond to conduct advanced research and bring the latest treatment options to Maine.
