Eastern Maine Medical Center, Penobscot Pavilion

Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC)
is located in Bangor, Maine and has served communities throughout central, eastern, and northern Maine for more than a century...

Under community direction, it has grown from a five-bed general hospital into a comprehensive, 411-bed medical center. The medical center and its medical staff of nearly 300 physicians provide three-quarters of the primary-care hospital services offered in the Bangor area, as well as specialty and intensive services to the northern two-thirds of the state.

Our neighbors count on us as a resource for healthcare and health information, as a source of support and assistance for area physicians and other healthcare providers, and as a training ground for the health professionals of the future.

EMMC also provides outreach clinics to many local hospitals in the region, allowing easier access for patients and supporting the role of those hospitals in their communities.

In 1998, EMMC was proud to become one of three designated trauma centers in the Maine Trauma System, a voluntary trauma response network involving all Maine hospitals and the state's Emergency Medical Service.

Whoever they are, whatever their circumstances, Maine people know they can count on Eastern Maine Medical Center. We are committed to caring for everyone, even those who can't afford to pay. We stand ready, 24 hours a day. Because the way we see it, nothing should stand in the way of quality healthcare.

Eastern Maine Medical Center, Center for Family Medicine (Union Street)
The EMMC Center for Family Medicine (CFM), the model clinic for the residency program, is a state of the art facility about eight miles from the medical center. This facility has 32 exam rooms, all of which have access to the hospital electronic medical record system (including our Radiology system), the residency's electronic medical record system and a variety of electronic database reference systems such as Up-to-date. There are also two procedure rooms, an NST room, and several rooms with modern osteopathic manipulative medicine tables. Six of the exam rooms are equipped with a video observation system used for direct video precepting.

CFM has more than 30,000 outpatient visits annually. Patients are assigned to residents as their primary care providers. This allows residents to develop and maintain continuity of care with their patients throughout the three year residency.

CFM is located inside a larger facility, the Eastern Maine Healthcare Mall, which houses other outpatient services, including a full service laboratory, a commercial pharmacy, x-ray department, physical therapy, occupational therapy, an urgent care Walk In Clinic, and the EMMC Diabetes, Endocrine and Nutrition Center.

At CFM you are given your own work station which you can make your own. Also there is a precepting room staffed by family physicians daily, both MD and DO, and there is always a preceptor for Osteopathic manipulation available.
