Finding a Specialist

When you need comprehensive care, your primary doctor may refer you to a specialist. Your primary care physician can help with creating a treatment plan and overseeing your treatment, but many times your doctor will refer you to a specialist to help with other parts of your wellness plan. Types of specialists include:

Cardiologist - A cardiologist specializes in diseases of the heart. It is common for cardiologists to perform detailed tests, such as echocardiograms.

Electrophysiologist - This type of doctor specializes in treating arrhythmias. An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat that may be an indication of other problems.

Cardiovascular Surgeon - A cardiovascular surgeon specializes in surgeries of the heart, blood vessels, and diseases of the chest caused by heart disease and cardiovascular disorders. Often, after a diagnosis of heart disease, your primary care provider will refer you to a cardiovascular surgeon.

Working together with your primary physician, cardiovascular surgeons perform necessary surgeries and create treatment plans to ensure quality patient care and wellness.
