Maternal Fetal Medicine

Pregnant women who are at increased risk for potential complications because of family history or a medical condition like high blood pressure or diabetes require specialized attention. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine department within Eastern Maine Medical Center cares for an average of 1,600 women a year, providing the following services:

  • preconceptual counseling 
  • genetic counseling
  • prenatal diagnosis and screening
  • consultation on high risk pregnancy
  • targeted fetal ultrasound
  • antepartum testing
  • amniocentesis from 12 weeks
  • cordocentesis from 18 weeks
  • doppler and color flow doppler ultrasound
