  • EMMC Runs Ebola Preparedness Drill 12/10/2014

    This morning, EMMC performed a preparedness drill involving a scenario where an individual showed symptoms of a fever and body aches after a recent trip to Liberia caring for patients with Ebola. During the exercise, this person was referred to EMMC for care. Multidisciplinary teams came together to walk through the steps, including isolating the patient in a designated area and using precautions and processes recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for Ebola.

    One day last fall, Tripp Murray’s mom noticed that her two-year-old was walking a little bit differently. By the next day, his eyes were behaving strangely. Within hours, doctors discovered a brain tumor pushing up against his cranium. Like many cancer survivors, Tripp underwent a lifesaving bone marrow transplant during the course of his treatment.   • Study Shows Shopping Carts Pose Potential Danger 01/27/2014

    Bangor, Maine – Shopping with children isn’t always easy, especially with the dangers and worry of potential injury of a child falling from a shopping cart. According to a recent study from Nationwide Children’s Hospital, published in the January issue of the Clinical Pediatrics journal, it’s estimated that more than 24,000 children a year are injured badly enough from shopping cart accidents to require a trip to the emergency room.     Norm Dinerman, MD, EMMC’s iconic emergency physician responsible for bringing LifeFlight of Maine to our state, was recognized this week for his tireless work to improve pre-hospital care over many years. At its annual meeting January 16-18, the National Association of EMS Physicians recognized Dr. Dinerman with the Ronald D. Stewart Award, the most significant honor among EMS physicians, akin to a lifetime achievement award.
