Annual NICU Reunion Postponed in Light of Swine Flu Cautions

04/29/2009

Each year, Eastern Maine Medical Center hosts a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit reunion to celebrate the wonderful success stories of hundreds of newborns who needed special medical help at the beginning of life, and have gone on to grow and thrive.

In light of the CDC's cautions regarding the swine flu, this year's NICU Reunion, scheduled for this Sunday, May 3, has been postponed. Although the CDC is not yet recommending social distancing for the general population, certain segments including young children, potentially are more susceptible and should consider extra precautions. While there is no imminent threat to any of our patients or visitors, we also understand the delicate nature of these special babies. Therefore, we want to be proactive in protecting their health and safety - in an abundance of caution.

The reunion will be rescheduled so we can all have a chance to catch up on news and celebrate the successes of our NICU's "graduates." Once a new date is determined, EMMC will mail date notifications to families of NICU patients from the last two years.

If you have any questions about this event, please call the NICU at 973-8781.
