EMMC Sells Robinson Property

Bangor, ME – EMMC has signed a real estate sale agreement for the Robinson property, located at 424 State Street, Bangor. In December 2007, Deborah Carey Johnson, president and CEO Eastern Maine Medical Center, formed a State Street Neighborhood Workgroup to explore options for the Robinson property. The work group recommended that EMMC sell the property, and after receiving several bids on the property from interested parties, EMMC agreed to sell the home to a local resident. The buyer spent a great deal of time walking through the home with his family, and he intends to make this property his home.

Johnson is very pleased with the work of the State Street workgroup and the outcome of the bidding process, "I am pleased that our work as a group produced a recommendation that has resulted in what we believe is a mutually beneficial resolution for this property. We are confident the buyer's intention for the home will be a good fit for the neighborhood."

The closing for the property will take place within the next 30 days.

The Robinson house was built in 1931, and in 2001, EMHS and EMMC purchased it in its current condition. While it was originally thought this building might be used for EMMC daycare, or perhaps medical student or visiting physician housing, residential zoning limitations prohibited these uses. EMMC has maintained the property since that time, but has not wanted to invest limited healthcare dollars in refurbishing a structure that can not be used in direct support of EMMC's mission.

EMMC is a responsible steward and advocate for local healthcare, balancing cost considerations with individual and community needs. We are committed to a highly trained, dedicated staff and to program and facility improvements that ensure our patients and communities have access to the most up-to-date,
exceptional care as close to home as possible.
