(Bangor, Maine) – We all know that being active is an important part to keeping your heart healthy, and with that in mind, EMMC Heart Care has a special challenge for everyone at this year’s American Folk Festival, August 26-28.

EMMC Heart Care’s 10,000 Step Challenge is a way for Folk Festival-goers to track their activity while enjoying the music, food, and culture the festival offers. All participants who return to the tent and report their steps for the day (or weekend) are entered into a drawing for a fitness tracker.

“At its core, EMMC Heart Care is about preventing heart disease in our community, and a big part of that is through educating people in the region about how they can improve their health,” says Deborah Richards, RN, BS, Heart Care administrator. “The Folk Festival is a great event because it gets people active, and we’re hoping we can help contribute to that, and take the steps to help create a healthier population in the northern two-thirds of Maine.”

EMMC Heart Care will have a table near the Main Street entrance where attendees can sign up for the challenge, grab a free pedometer to measure their steps, and return at the end of the day or festival with their results. All participants get to keep the pedometer.
