(Bangor, Maine) – Eastern Maine Medical Center has earned exceptional performance in hospital safety as ranked by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog that helps patients identify the safest hospitals. EMMC is again honored with an “A” in the latest Hospital Safety Score that rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries, and infections. EMMC is one of only 251 hospitals in the nation to achieve an "A" ranking all five times The Leapfrog Group surveyed.
“It is rewarding to receive the top rank nationally in patient safety,” says James Raczek, MD, FAAFP, EMMC senior vice president, chief operating officer, and chief medical officer. “This rating is a testament to EMMC’s culture of continuously pursuing improvements to quality and creating a safer environment for our patients. Earning an ‘A’ doesn’t mean we stop evolving. We constantly look for new ways to improve, such as time-outs before surgery, staff huddles during shift changes, and hard-wiring safety tools so our processes result in better patient outcomes.”
