EMMC Recognized as a National Leader in Providing High Quality, Safe Healthcare

09/14/2011

Eastern Maine Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States, and is one of only three hospitals in Maine -- the only one with an established Heart Center -- to be recognized.

This is the first year The Joint Commission is recognizing hospitals that attain and sustain excellence in accountability measured performance. EMMC is one of 405 hospitals in the United States, which is 14 percent of all hospitals, to be named to the Top Performers on Key Quality Measures list.

To be acknowledged as a top performer on key quality measures, an organization must meet two 95 percent performance thresholds. EMMC was recognized for not only achieving, but far exceeding, these thresholds. EMMC achieved an overall composite score of 99 percent in all four clinical areas: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia care, and surgical care.

EMMC is committed to providing exceptional primary and specialty healthcare with a passionate pursuit of excellence in patient safety, clinical quality, and service. Our mission is to care for patients, families, communities, and one another – all the more reason to voluntarily participate in The Joint Commission’s hospital accreditation process.
