EMMC Responds to Phone Disruption

08/03/2010

Eastern Maine Medical Center’s incoming phone system has been interrupted by a construction incident elsewhere in the city. EMMC is down to a single incoming hardwired phone line into the main number, which may mean a busy signal for many who call that line. We are asking that people dial the main number in an emergency only, as the line should be prioritized for patient emergencies. In addition, referring hospitals and physician offices have been given cell phone numbers to reach the Transfer Center of Eastern Maine for assistance with patients who need to come to EMMC. Cell phone service is still working for many phones.
  • All hospital medical services are open and operating, including the Emergency Department and Walk-In Care.
  • EMMC emergency incident command is working cooperatively with local and state emergency management officials, as well as healthcare providers throughout the region, to be sure access to our medical services is as smooth as possible.
  • Patients and families who have access to cell phones are encouraged to use them to connect with each other.
  • While it remains unclear how long the problem with the phone cables will take to resolve, EMMC is working to increase access through cell phone service.
