(Bangor, Maine) – Varicose veins are a very common problem in the US, affecting more than half of people age 50 and older. This fall, EMMC is raising awareness about varicose veins and how they are diagnosed and treated at a free educational seminar on Thursday, September 25.

“Many people seek treatment for their varicose veins for cosmetic reasons,” says Mona Li, a venous surgeon and phlebologist at EMMC Vascular Care, “but varicose veins can be very painful, and they may lead to ulcers and other serious problems if left untreated. At this seminar, we’ll talk about how to know when the time is right to get an evaluation and explore all of the different options that are available to people who are living with varicose veins.”

The seminar, which will be held at the Spectacular Event Center, will begin with dinner at 5:30 pm to be followed by a presentation and question/answer session.

“I encourage anyone who has questions about varicose veins to attend this free event,” adds Dr. Li. “This will be a great opportunity to have all of your questions answered by our varicose veins physicians. If you had considered coming to one of our previous varicose veins seminars but were unable to attend, we hope you’ll plan to join us for this one.”

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required by visiting varicoseveins.emmc.org or calling 973-6670
