Honoring EMMC's Heroes for Life

08/08/2011

Bangor, Maine – There is no greater gift than giving the gift of life, and on Tuesday, August 9 at 1 pm, Eastern Maine Medical Center and the New England Organ Bank Organ invite you to help us honor organ donors and
their families during a formal dedication of EMMC’s Organ Donation Memorial Butterfly Garden. The dedication will start in Mason Auditorium at EMMC’s State Street campus, and then move outside to the garden.

Located behind EMMC’s Intensive Care Unit along the banks of the Penobscot River, the Organ Donation Memorial Butterfly Garden is a symbol of hope, renewal, and transformation. The garden is shaped like a butterfly and features perennials that attract butterflies. Benches and a fountain offer families and visitors to a quiet, restful spot on the plaza outside the Intensive Care Unit.

In addition to representatives from Eastern Maine Medical Center and the New England Organ Bank, organ donors’ families and recipients will also be on hand. We’d also like to thank the many volunteers who donated their time and generosity to help make this garden a reality.
