Urologist Gideon Lorber, MD Joins EMMC

10/07/2014

(Bangor, Maine) – EMMC welcomes Gideon Lorber, MD, to its growing Urologic Surgery of Maine team. Skilled at all aspects of general urology, Dr. Lorber has a special interest and expertise in minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of kidney disease. His advanced training in kidney stone surgery allows him to gain his own needle-guided access to the kidney that is used for removal of large kidney stones. This can reduce the number of steps needed to prepare for surgery, which in turn saves patients a trip to the hospital the day before the procedure for gaining access to the kidney by interventional radiology. Dr. Lorber also has extensive training in many surgical procedures (including robotic surgery) for the treatment of urinary stones, cancers of the lining of the kidney, and urinary blockages.

After receiving his medical degree from Semmelweis University School of Medicine, in Budapest, Hungary, Dr. Lorber completed his urology residency at Hadassah Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel. After his residency, Dr. Lorber pursued a two-year fellowship in endourology, robotic surgery, laparoscopy, and minimally invasive surgery at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida.  He has published many peer reviewed articles in the field of endourology and has presented his research at both national and international urological conferences.
