Surgeons Log On From Coast to Coast to Learn About Robotic Surgery from EMMC

(Bangor, Maine) – Surgeons from coast to coast, logged on to a webinar hosted by EMMC on Thursday, September 6. During the webinar, attendees learned more about robotic surgery and the benefits it offers physicians and their patients including less pain, reduced scarring, and faster recovery. They received this information from one of the country’s first surgeons to perform robotically-assisted bariatric surgery, EMMC’s bariatric surgeon Michelle Toder, MD, FACS.

Many days, Dr. Toder can be found in EMMC’s operating rooms, performing bariatric surgery on patients of EMMC’s Surgical Weight Loss Program. But, she says, it’s important to take time to educate other surgeons about the benefits of robotics. “As a surgeon, I can help a certain number of patients take control of their weight and their health through robotically-assisted surgical weight loss each year. But, as a mentor, I can inspire other surgeons to advance the field of surgery by adopting robotics, and can affect the care of thousands of patients to come.”

In all, more than 50 people took part in the webinar, including physicians from leading institutions across the United States. As EMMC continues to be a leader in robotic surgery, more webinars and on-site demonstrations are expected in the future.
