Nearly 60 million Americans have heart disease. It's the leading cause of death in both men and women in the United States and a major cause of physical disability. Changes in exercise, diet, smoking habits, and other lifestyle adjustments may prevent or decrease the progression of heart disease and its impact on the quality of life. Cardiac rehabilitation plays a key role in helping people modify their risk factors and maximize their ability to function independently so they can lead full, productive lives. Each component of the program is tailored to the individual's needs by a team of cardiac healthcare professionals.
Cardiac Wellness of Maine is one of the oldest cardiac rehabilitation programs in Maine. Established in 1981 and certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), Cardiac Wellness of Maine has three key components: the Cardiovascular Fitness Center, a Heart Healthy Lifestyle Education Center and Cardiovascular Learning Center. Our goal is to help you return to better health. The premise of our program is to help you regain lost independence and to do so safely. While the Cardiovascular Fitness Center is geared for cardiac rehab patients, both the Heart Healthy Lifestyle Education Center and Cardiovascular Learning Center provide wellness education to the general public.
Our cardiac rehab team of nurses and exercise physiologists are specially trained to work with cardiovascular patients. Heart monitors and frequent blood pressure checks help the staff to closely supervise you to assure your safety.
