(Bangor, ME) – Living with joint pain can significantly limit your ability to enjoy an active life. For more than 35 years, EMMC's board-certified orthopedic joint surgeons have been repairing and replacing hips and knees, and now we’re proud to announce that EMMC’s Joint Center is the first in the state of Maine and only the third in New England to earn the Gold Seal of Approval for healthcare quality. The Joint Commission recently awarded Eastern Maine Medical Center Disease-Specific Care Certification for our total hip and knee programs.
“Eastern Maine Medical Center voluntarily pursued this comprehensive, independent evaluation to enhance the safety and quality of care we provide,” explains Deborah Carey Johnson, RN, president and CEO. “Patients who are in need of a total hip or knee replacement can be confident they’re receiving the very best care and treatment at EMMC,” explains Deborah Carey Johnson, RN, president and CEO.
The goal of EMMC’s Joint Center is to get our patients back to their normal activities as soon as possible. We use the latest innovations and state-of-art technology, such as minimally invasive and computer-assisted technology, to help fix or replace joints, but our program is much more than the actual joint surgery. Our preoperative education classes help set the expectations before, during, and after surgery. We also work extremely closely with EMMC’s Blood Management and Conservation Program to proactively reduce our patients’ need for blood transfusions.
EMMC, as a member of EMHS, is a responsible steward and advocate for local healthcare, balancing cost considerations with individual and community needs. We are committed to a highly trained, dedicated staff and to program and facility improvements that ensure our patients and communities have access to the most up to date, exceptional care as close to home as possible.
