Bangor, Maine’s third largest city and home to Eastern Maine Medical Center, is in the middle of it all. Once a tiny Native American settlement at the confluence of two rivers in the “Great North Woods,” Bangor is now the cultural, educational, and health service center for much of Maine and the Canadian Maritime Provinces.

Although Bangor's population is approximately 33,000 people, it manages to retain its country charm, creating a wonderful “city in the country” atmosphere. Recreation and cultural activity are conveniently located in and around Bangor. The Maine Center for the Arts at the University of Maine in Orono, multiple theater groups, and the Bangor Symphony Orchestra are but a few of the arts and entertainment opportunities available. The area also abounds with great places to shop, farmers markets, and local artisan shops.
