Volunteer Benefits

1. EMMC volunteers are covered by EMMC Self-insurance plan for hospital liability when on duty if the Volunteer is signed in and wearing their nametag. Volunteers away from the Medical Center but on EMMC business are also covered, provided a record of the service is kept. You are not covered when you are not volunteering.

2. EMMC volunteers receive a 30% discount in the cafeteria when wearing their nametag. A 15% discount is also available (with some restriction) at the EMMC Pharmacy.

3. After 2 months of service, EMMC volunteers are invited to participate in workshops sponsored by EMMC's Education and Training Department. Some of these workshops may be free of charge, or carry a nominal fee. Contact Volunteer Services for more information.

4. Free blood pressure screenings and cholesterol screenings are available through the HealthShare Program as noted periodically in the Currents newsletter. Flu shots are available during October and November.

5. EMMC volunteers may join the EMMC Credit Union.

6. EMMC Volunteers can become members of
the EMMC Auxiliary.

7. EMMC volunteers may join the Fitness Center at the same cost as employees, currently $21.00 for 6 months.

8. Volunteers receive a volunteer jacket, smock or vest. All receive a photo ID. Uniforms and photo IDs are to be cared for by the volunteer and returned when volunteer service ends.

9. Volunteers are permitted to park in employee parking areas. There is a map provided to illustrate further definition of permitted and unpermitted parking areas. Volunteers may also use the Wing Park Shuttle Bus. Valet parking may be used when health challenges would limit volunteer service.

10. Each Spring, the Medical Center Board of Trustees gives an official recognition tea for all volunteers. Service pins recognizing hours of service rendered to the Medical Center are awarded. The first award is issued when the volunteer has contributed 100 hours of service. At 3000 hours, the volunteer's name is placed on the Honor Board in the main lobby.

11. Volunteers are welcome to check out material from the Hadley Parrot Medical Library which contains both technical information and medical information for the consumer.

12. Medical screening requirements are provided free of charge. Written record of results are provided upon request.

13. Volunteer mileage is deductible on itemized income tax returns. To obtain a record of service, contact Volunteer Services Office.
