    (Bangor, Maine) - There was a time just a few months ago when Horace Moffatt, better known as Spike, found himself at a crossroads in his life at the age of 83. After undergoing several coronary procedures over the years, Spike had a heart valve that was failing due to degeneration from aging. He had difficulty breathing, walking, and doing the simplest tasks. In the past, the only treatment option would have been open heart surgery to replace a valve. Fortunately, a new, less invasive procedure at EMMC called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) has Spike feeling better than he has in years.

  • EMMC and Nurses Union Reach Tentative Agreement 07/08/2015

    Eastern Maine Medical Center and the Maine State Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United have come to a tentative agreement on a three-year contract.
     
    "This agreement is the result of compromises on both sides. It is a responsible contract for the hospital and community and acknowledges our nurses' essential contribution to patient care. The agreement ensures we can remain focused on our greatest priority: providing high quality care to our patients," says Deborah Carey Johnson, EMMC president and CEO.
     
    EMMC's bargaining team will present the tentative agreement to the EMMC board with a recommendation to ratify, and the union bargaining team will make a similar presentation to its members.
