EMMC Celebrates Grand Opening of New Parking Garage

As the tertiary referral center for the northern two-thirds of Maine, EMMC is continually looking to improve access to healthcare for the communities we serve. It became evident that for some, access starts the minute they arrive on our State Street campus, in the form of available parking spots.

EMMC is excited to celebrate the opening of a new parking garage, with 810 parking spots, that will ensure sufficient parking for our patients and visitors, and will allow all to park on campus.

The new parking garage also ensures that all of EMMC employees are once again able to park on campus. In 2002, EMMC created a Travel Team made up of employees who park at off-site locations, including downtown Bangor, and are bussed to EMMC – causing great inconvenience for these employees and added costs for the hospital. Beginning on Monday, June 1, these employees will once again be allowed to park on campus.
Eastern Maine Medical Center President and CEO, Deborah Carey Johnson, RN, thanked the EMMC employees who parked off campus for nearly ten years during Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Below you will find audio from an interview with Debbie Johnson thanking travel team members for putting our patients first by parking off campus. Reporters are welcome to download these sound bytes and use on-air or as needed.
