EMMC Celebrates Physicians on Doctors’ Day

(Bangor, Maine) – Doctors are there for patients and families in their greatest times of need, helping people recover from illness, bringing new life into the world, and facilitating end of life care with dignity and respect. On March 31, EMMC encourages the community to join in celebrating National Doctors’ Day, an opportunity to recognize the essential role that physicians play in providing high quality healthcare with compassion.

“EMMC is proud of its highly diverse, experienced medical staff that provides primary and specialty care to people in Greater Bangor and throughout the northern two-thirds of the state,” says James A. Raczek, MD, FAAFP, EMMC senior vice president, chief operating officer, and chief medical officer. “Whether it’s delivering lifesaving care in response to a serious medical issue or routine care to help patients improve or maintain their health, our physicians touch many lives.”

EMMC employees are celebrating by writing messages of appreciation to individual physicians who they feel have provided extraordinary care or comfort. The messages have been posted throughout the hospital and are being featured on EMMC’s Facebook page and in its internal newsletter. EMMC encourages community members to participate by thanking physicians who have made a difference on the EMMC Facebook page.

“Our doctors often receive thank you notes from patients who are grateful for the care they received, but we want to allow anyone who is interested to share their thoughts in a more public way on this special day,” adds Dr. Raczek.

Nationally, Doctors’ Day is celebrated annually on March 30. Since March 30 is on a Sunday, EMMC is holding its recognition on March 31 so more physicians will be able to participate.

EMMC’s active medical staff is comprised of over 400 physicians, most of whom are board certified. In addition to working at EMMC, many provide specialty care at other EMHS member hospitals throughout the region.
