EMMC Goes Red for Women

(Bangor, Maine) — The first Friday in February is National Go Red for Women Day, an initiative to raise awareness of women’s heart disease. This year, EMMC employees, as well as visitors and patients, are encouraged to show their support by wearing red tomorrow.

EMMC’s Heart Care team will have a table set up on Level 2 of the Penobscot Pavilion from 10 am to 1 pm. They will hand out information on women’s heart health and raise awareness of heart disease in women, which remains the number one killer of women in the United States.

“The goal of Go Red for Women is to make sure that everyone is aware that heart disease is a woman’s disease, not just a man’s disease.” says Denise Sullivan, CMA (AAMA), clinical educator and Women Heart Champion. “We want to educate staff and visitors about the symptoms of women’s heart disease, because they can differ from the classic symptoms that we tend to think of.”

For more information on women’s heart disease, visit the table on February 3, and don’t forget to show your support by wearing red.
