EMMC Recognized for Exceptional Support of the Guard and Reserve

Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) is the Maine 2009 recipient of the Pro Patria award from the Maine Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) program. The Pro Patria award recognizes employers who demonstrate exceptional support for our national defense by adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employers to participate in the National Guard and Reserve. This award is given to one business or organization per state annually.

EMMC president and CEO, Deborah Carey Johnson, RN, says, “We are proud to count many EMMC employees among those serving our country in the military, and proud to support their ability to serve. Our employment philosophy at EMMC--like our service and clinical philosophy, in general-- is to do what's right. It's humbling to be honored, when truly they are the ones making the real sacrifices.”

EMMC was nominated by John Simpson, chair of the Maine Committee - ESGR. John commented, “Eastern Maine Medical Center has a long track record of support for their employees who belong to the Guard and Reserve. They encourage employees and managers at all levels to outwardly support those service members and their families. Proactive outreach to family members is just one example of the outstanding initiatives practiced by the staff at EMMC.”
