EMMC and NECA Complete Integration Agreement

Bangor, Maine – Today, Eastern Maine Medical Center and Northeast Cardiology Associates (NECA) completed an agreement to integrate the cardiology practice into EMMC’s Heart Center. The goal of this integration is to give patients easier access to an EMMC Heart Center that provides consistent service and quality of care.

“This is an exciting agreement for EMMC, Northeast Cardiology, and for patients in the community,” says James Raczek, MD, FAAFP, senior vice president of operations and chief medical officer. “Our two organizations are now one. Our goals are now shared, so we expect patients will see improved efficiency and access, and consistent high quality of care. We also believe this employment model will give us greater ability to recruit talented new cardiologists to our region.”

“Northeast Cardiology Associates and Eastern Maine Medical Center have been working on this merger for close to two years,” says Robert Hoffmann, MD, executive medical director and lead cardiologist of EMMC Northeast Cardiology Associates. “After a lot of hard work we are very excited and pleased that it is finally completed. We feel together we will be better prepared to meet the challenges of healthcare reform and continue to provide excellent cardiac care to the region.”

EMMC’s Heart Center will continue to work closely with the region’s community hospitals to be sure consulting for heart patients is available as close to home as possible. EMMC also intends to continue to provide cardiology services at St. Joseph Hospital, previously staffed by NECA.
