EMMC and NECA Plan to Integrate for Improved Cardiac Care

Bangor, Maine – Eastern Maine Medical Center and Northeast Cardiology Associates (NECA) are excited to announce they are in final discussions to integrate the cardiology physician practice into EMMC’s Heart Center. The plan will facilitate closer alignment and coordination of care, ease of access, quality monitoring and improvement, and enhanced patient service.

EMMC’s Heart Center will continue to work closely with the region’s community hospitals to be sure consulting for heart patients is available as close to home as possible. We also intend to continue to provide cardiology services at St. Joseph Hospital, currently staffed by NECA.

“National healthcare reform is challenging providers to examine the way we deliver care, and rework our processes to improve efficiency and quality of care,” says Deborah Carey Johnson, RN, EMMC president and CEO. Integrating EMMC and NECA’s services will allow smoother patient access and will give us a greater ability to recruit talented cardiologists to our region.”

“This is a real win for heart patients in our region,” says Robert Hoffmann, MD, Northeast Cardiology Associates president. “Together, EMMC and NECA will maintain a robust team of highly skilled physicians, state-of-the-art technology, and a coordinated approach that delivers high quality care to the patients we serve.”

The agreement is subject to review by the Maine Attorney General’s office. We hope to have everything concluded before the end of the year.
