EMMC and United Way Partner on Food Drive for National Nurses Week, National Hospital Week

(Bangor, Maine) – Warmer weather with bits of green popping up everywhere signals that spring celebrations are right around the corner. This year, EMMC is celebrating National Nurses Week, May 6-12, and National Hospital Week, May 10-16, with a packed schedule of events, including a food drive being held in coordination with the United Way.

The food drive will run through May 15, with all donations going to the Good Shepherd Food Bank. The community is invited to support the drive by dropping off nonperishable food items in the donation boxes located outside of EMMC’s Cafeteria, or you may drop it off with Valet staff at the Main Entrance.

The idea to hold a food drive during National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week came from EMMC’s nursing staff. Given the United Way’s commitment to improving lives in the region, the organization was eager to partner with EMMC on the food drive.

“More than 20 percent of Maine households do not have reliable and consistent access to food,” says John Kuropchak, president and CEO of United Way of Eastern Maine. “Through the efforts of projects like the EMMC Nurses’ Food Drive, we can assist families and children with the ever growing problem. Thank you EMMC nurses for all you do!”
