Eastern Maine Medical Center Encourages Community Members to Register as Organ Donors

(Bangor, Maine) – In 2016, more than 33,600 transplants brought renewed life to patients and their families. Today, more than 116,000 people across the country await lifesaving organ transplants and a new name is added to this waiting list every ten minutes.
This April, during National Donate Life Month, Eastern Maine Medical Center invites community members to make a difference by registering to be an organ donor through the New England Donor Bank. Those who would like to register or find out more information can visit emmc.org/donatelife. The hospital will also host a registration table throughout the month at its State Street campus.
In 2012, Michele Metzler’s father unexpectedly passed away from a brain aneurysm. Michele’s father had been a strong supporter of organ donation since she can remember and, with his passing, several people were able to find new hope through organ transplants. For the past six years, Michele has shared her family’s story in hopes of inspiring others to register as an organ donor. Michele will join Eastern Maine Medical Center as it kicks off its month-long awareness campaign at 3:30 pm on Thursday, April 5, at the State Street campus.
Members of the media are invited to attend the kickoff event. For more information, please contact EMMC Community Relations at emmcmediarequest@emhs.org or (207) 973-9530
