Gift Shop Changes Coming Soon

(Bangor, Maine) - The Auxiliary of EMMC has successfully run the EMMC Gift Shop for year, with all of the profits returned to the medical center for use in support of patient care programs. In challenging financial times, however, the Gift Shop has struggled to maintain its historical high performance, and this week, the Auxiliary has announced some changes to better continue to meet the needs of patients, families and staff.

Hospital gift shops across the country face similar challenges, and hundreds have entered into agreements with a specialty company, Lori’s Gifts, to help them meet their missions. Because it has locations across the country, it has national supplier connections and bulk buying power that, ultimately, means a wider inventory and a better margin on products. In this new scenario, Lori’s Gifts will pay for the Gift Shop space, guaranteeing a certain income level, and contribute a contracted percentage of merchandise sales to go back into patient care at EMMC.

Affected employees may apply for jobs with Lori’s Gifts or for other positions they may qualify for at EMMC and EMHS affiliates. EMMC volunteers will continue to be placed in the Gift Shop. The Gift Shop will remain open for the remainder of the summer under current management, liquidating inventory. Then the shop will close for a week at some point in the fall and reopen under the new management. We hope you’ll be as excited about the changes as we are!
