Danielle Lawson, BSN, RN-BC, Honored with Nurse Excellence Award

Every May, all of us at EMMC have the opportunity to take a moment and recognize the remarkable care our nurses provide our patients every single day. As we celebrate National Nurses Week, we honor one exceptional nurse who goes above and beyond for our patients, and this year, we also added four more categories in an awards ceremony held Friday, May 6.

Danielle Lawson, BSN, RN-BC, charge nurse, Merritt 3 Surgical, is the 2016 recipient of the Nurse Excellence Award. She graduated with an associate degree in Nursing from Eastern Maine Community College in 2003. Immediately after graduation she took a position as a full-time nurse orientee on Merritt 3 Surgical, which remains her home.

With the desire to take on new challenges, Danielle stepped into the night charge position on M3S in June 2008 while she finished her BSN at the University of Maine.  She continued to work full time while doing this, until her graduation in 2012.

“I was shocked,” Danielle says of receiving the award. “I had no idea at all.”

“What makes you successful is your team, so I can’t do it by myself,” Danielle continues. “It’s everybody. I work with a bunch of great nurses every single day. I come to work and I hold everybody to [a very high standard], promoting remarkable care and making sure the patient experience is exceptional. If my family member was in the hospital, that’s how I’d want them to be treated.”
Congratulations to Danielle for this recognition, and thank you for your dedication to your patients, their families, and your co-workers.
