Urologic Surgery

Robotic surgery is a form of laparoscopic surgery, which is performed through a few small incisions. This is unlike traditional open surgery, which requires significantly larger surgical incisions. The magnification of the surgical field combined with the superb accuracy offered by the robotic technology is associated with improved surgical outcomes, fewer complications, and lower blood loss. The smaller incisions are less painful and heal more quickly, allowing for a faster recovery after surgery with smaller scars.

The urologists at EMMC offer minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery for a wide variety of urological diseases and conditions including:

  • Prostate cancer (Radical prostatectomy – removal of the prostate gland)
  • Kidney cancer (Partial or total nephrectomy – removal of part or the entire kidney)
  • Bladder cancer (Radical cystectomy – removal of the bladder)
  • Adrenal cancer (Adrenalectomy - Removal of all or part of the adrenal gland)
  • Pelvic organ prolapse (Sacrocolpopexy – repair of pelvic organ prolapse)
  • Congenital renal pelvis obstruction (Pyeloplasty – repair of uretoro-pelvic junction obstruction)
  • Ureteral reconstruction - Stricture repair
EMMC also offers robot-assisted surgery for pedatric patients with certain urologic conditions.
