Staff Prepares to Open Renovated Women and Infant’s Unit

05/03/2018

(Bangor, Maine) – After 18 months of renovation, staff on Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Women and Infant’s unit is preparing to open their new space on May 22. While much of the layout is familiar, the renovations have introduced many improvements to our patients’ experience including all private patient rooms, telemetry for fetal heart monitoring so mothers in early labor can be out of bed and walking comfortably, and a hydrotherapy tub to provide comfort and relaxation during labor.

This week, nurses and providers, along with other essential staff members will train in the new space and get acquainted with their new surroundings during “Day in the Life” training. Staff will go over various scenarios to ensure their preparedness for the unit’s first patient day later this month.

“The main objective in training staff prior to the major move is to optimize safety in transitioning to a new physical layout and the changes in patient care and workflow processes, explains Aida Poblador-Stevens, MSN, RN, associate vice president, Women’s and Children’s Services. “In addition, this strategy improves system readiness and staff preparedness in the new environment and the integration of new technology.”
